POLAR BEAR ERUPTS! Alonso’s TWO Bombs Lift Orioles to 10-5 Slump-Busting W

ARLINGTON, Texas — The Polar Bear just woke up in orange and black. Pete Alonso delivered his first two-homer game with the Orioles, driving in four runs as Baltimore snapped out of a brutal scoring slump with a 10-5 beatdown of the Texas Rangers on Sunday.

Alonso, the five-time All-Star who signed as a free agent last December after seven seasons with the Mets, went deep in the second with a two-run laser that hugged the left-field foul pole off Kumar Rocker. Then he did it again in the fourth, crushing a two-run shot to left-center off Jordan Montgomery. It was the 27th multihomer game of his career — and it couldn’t have come at a better time for a Baltimore lineup that had scored just three runs during a three-game losing streak.

NOT JUST ALONSO

Texas native Colton Cowser and Tyler O’Neill also went deep as the Orioles (57-61) pounded out their most emphatic win in weeks. Baltimore had managed just two runs in each of the first two games of this series, but this time the bats came alive — and they needed every bit of it.

Brandon Nimmo kept the Rangers close with a three-run blast off starter Cade Povich in the third, but Texas couldn’t stop the bleeding. Rocker coughed up six runs in just three-plus innings, a rough outing for a guy who had allowed only five in his prior three starts combined.

BULLPEN HEROICS

Yaramil Hiraldo (1-0) pumped two scoreless innings of relief to earn his first major league win, shutting the door on any Rangers momentum. Texas (59-59) saw its four-game winning streak vanish as they hold the final AL wild-card spot.

There was also a storyline in the Rangers’ dugout: Jordan Montgomery made his first MLB appearance since September 2024, returning after Tommy John surgery. The lefty allowed three runs on six hits over four innings, including two homers and a walk, throwing 79 pitches. The rust showed, but the comeback itself is a win.

WHAT’S NEXT

The Orioles head to Minnesota for a Monday clash with Dean Kremer on the mound against Trevor Rogers. The Rangers host the Angels, with MacKenzie Gore taking on Reid Detmers.

But for one night, Baltimore’s bats are roaring again — and Alonso looks right at home.
