Rays Ride Seymour's Arm, Mullins' Clutch Hit to Sweep Mariners in Seattle

SEATTLE -- The Tampa Bay Rays aren't just winning. They're stacking bodies and sweeping souls.

Cedric Mullins delivered the go-ahead RBI single in the fifth, Ian Seymour shrugged off a shaky first and dealt six strong innings, and the Rays bullied the Mariners 4-1 Sunday to complete a three-game sweep at T-Mobile Park.

Seattle struck first when Taylor Ward ripped a leadoff triple and scored on Cole Young's single. Dominic Canzone followed with a knock of his own. But Seymour (9-3) slammed the door after that, allowing just two hits the rest of the way. Final line: six innings, one run, two walks, seven punchouts. Steven Matz worked the ninth for his first save of the season.

Yandy Diaz — who, along with Chandler Simpson, racked up four hits — tied it in the fourth with an RBI single that plated Mullins. Then Mullins grabbed the lead for good in the fifth, singling off Mariners starter Emerson Hancock to score Junior Caminero.

Tampa Bay's offense kept the pressure on, finishing with 14 hits. They added insurance in the sixth when Liam Hicks doubled down the left-field line, scoring both Diaz and Simpson.

Hancock (6-7) took the loss, surrendering two runs on nine hits over 4 2/3 innings.

The Mariners are in full-on freefall: four straight losses, five of six overall. The Rays? Still the best record in the American League.
