Back in the Brew: Bryse Wilson Reunites with Milwaukee Days After DFA

SAN DIEGO — Plot twist! Bryse Wilson is officially back with the Milwaukee Brewers — only three days after being designated for assignment. The club made it official before Tuesday's showdown against the San Diego Padres, signing the veteran right-hander to a one-year deal and sliding him straight onto the active roster.

To make room, the Brewers designated right-hander Lyon Richardson for assignment. Rough business, but that's the bullpen grind.

The Whirlwind Week

Saturday, Wilson was DFA'd and Richardson was promoted from Triple-A Nashville while Milwaukee needed a fresh arm. The wild part? Wilson had just thrown three scoreless innings of relief in an 8-6 loss to Minnesota, allowing only one baserunner. Then he got the boot. Baseball, baby.

After clearing waivers and getting optioned to Nashville, Wilson chose free agency instead. Now, in a twist even scriptwriters would find cheesy, he's back with the team that just cut him.

Numbers to Know

The 28-year-old owns a 0-0 record and a 2.63 ERA across six appearances with Milwaukee this season. He also made two appearances for the Chicago Cubs and one for the Philadelphia Phillies earlier this year.

Richardson, for his part, fired 1⅔ scoreless innings Monday in a 3-2 loss at San Diego. He had previously allowed five runs in 1⅔ innings across two outings with the Reds.

The Brewers also announced that the Oakland Athletics claimed left-hander Drew Rom off waivers. Rom — DFA'd by Milwaukee on Sunday — posted a 1-0 record with a 3.18 ERA in five games this year.

Timing matters too: Milwaukee owns MLB's best record and is grinding through 17 games in 17 days. No off day until Monday, following a four-game road series against the reigning champion Dodgers. Wilson's return gives this bullpen serious depth at exactly the right time.
