Bombs Away: Ohtani & Betts Power Dodgers to Sweep Over Royals

The Dodgers are rolling again. And they did it the way we've come to expect: with pure, unadulterated power.

Shohei Ohtani crushed a two-run go-ahead homer in the third, Mookie Betts kept his scorching streak alive, and Los Angeles swept the Kansas City Royals with a 4-2 win Wednesday night at Chavez Ravine.

The Bombs

Ohtani's 27th dinger of the year was his first in a week — and it couldn't have come at a better time. Down 1-0, the four-time MVP turned on a pitch and sent it into the night, flipping the game and the series in one swing.

Betts, who's been mired in an uncharacteristic slump, now has 11 hits in his last seven games. He added two more knocks and a walk, looking every bit like the star the Dodgers need behind Ohtani.

Then there's Hunter Feduccia. The catcher, back with LA after a deadline deal from Tampa Bay, launched his third career homer in the fifth — a solo shot that gave the bullpen some breathing room.

The Scare

But it wasn't all smooth sailing. In the eighth, Freddie Freeman took a terrifying tumble down the Royals' dugout steps while chasing a foul popup. The veteran somehow stayed in the game, but Tommy Edman pinch-hit for him in the bottom of the frame. Keep an eye on that one.

The Arms

Eric Lauer was brilliant, spinning 6 1/3 innings of four-hit ball, allowing just one earned run while striking out six. He threw 112 pitches — his longest outing of the year — and improved to 7-6. Sure, he might lose his rotation spot when Tyler Glasnow or Ohtani returns to the hill, but nights like this prove he's still got plenty left.

Landon Knack, fresh off a call-up, slammed the door with 2 2/3 scoreless frames, earning his first save of 2026.

The Other Side

Salvador Perez did his damage early with an RBI, but he exited in the sixth with right elbow aggravation, adding to Kansas City's misery. The Royals have dropped four straight and 10 of 13. Daniel Lynch IV didn't make it out of the third, throwing just 39 pitches before getting chased by Ohtani's blast.

The Dodgers have now won four of five, shaking off that seven-game skid that had everyone panicking. Next up? Roki Sasaki takes the mound Thursday against the MLB-leading Brewers. Buckle up.
