The majors' best team just got a scare. The Milwaukee Brewers rolled into L.A. without their RBI machine Brice Turang for Thursday's series opener against the Dodgers — and if you heard "knee pain," you know the panic meter spiked.

But here's the deal: The MRI on Turang's left knee came back clean enough. No structural nightmare. Still, the Brewers are being extra cautious, shipping the imaging to a second set of eyes to make sure nothing's lurking.

Day-to-day, but not playing tonight

Manager Pat Murphy kept it real with reporters:

"Been nursing this knee pain and just got to a point where he really needs to take some time. We don't know how long. They're saying day-to-day. He had an MRI today. The MRI did not reveal so far anything we're too worried about. Obviously, he can't play tonight."

So David Hamilton gets the nod at second base in this matchup of division leaders. Turang, meanwhile, is left to watch and wait.

One more body on the infield casualty list

This isn't the only dent in Milwaukee's infield. Shortstop Cooper Pratt landed on the injured list Sunday with a strained right hamstring. Now Turang's status adds another layer of uncertainty as the Brewers keep stacking wins.

Turang has been the engine of the lineup — a team-leading 76 RBIs and 16 homers, third-best on the club. That kind of production doesn't grow on trees.

For now, the Brewers dodge a bullet. But with October on the horizon, every day of rest is a calculated gamble.
