Fantasy Baseball Tuesday: Ride Baz, Stream Leahy & Stack Guardians vs. Whisenhunt
Fantasy baseball is a game of edges, and Tuesday's slate is loaded with them. Whether you need a spot-start arm or a platoon bat, these are the plays that'll put you over the top.
Pitchers to Stream on Tuesday
Shane Baz (BAL) vs. New York Yankees: Baz got roughed up in his last outing, but don't overreact. Before that clunker, he was dealing after the All-Star break with a 2.15 ERA, 1.13 WHIP, 30 strikeouts, and only four walks over 29 1/3 innings. Now he faces a Yankees offense that's been flat-out bad for two months — they're averaging the fewest runs per game in MLB over that stretch. That's a stream dream, folks.
Kyle Leahy (STL) at Cincinnati Reds: Leahy isn't going to blow you away with stuff, but he gets the job done. His strikeout rate has stayed above 21% for two straight seasons — more than enough for a stream. Sure, Great American Ball Park is a bandbox, but the Reds are a gift to righties right now. Over the last two months, they own the second-highest strikeout rate and the sixth-lowest wOBA against right-handed pitching. Sign us up.
Tyler Mahle (ATL) at Minnesota Twins: Mahle has looked like a different pitcher since joining the Braves, fanning 16 over his first 12 innings and striking out nine in his final outing with the Giants. The secret? He's swapped out some cutters for more splitters, and the results are real. The Twins might be a tough road test, but their lineup has been below average against righties for the past month. Mahle's arrow is pointing up.
Keider Montero (DET) at Pittsburgh Pirates: The Tigers shipped out Skubal and Mize, yet they're still sniffing a wild card — and Montero is a big reason why. Two of his last three starts have been six shutout innings. Now he gets a Pirates squad that was mashing righties earlier in the season but has flipped the script: Over the past month, they're seventh-lowest in wOBA and third-highest in strikeout rate against righties. Montero is a sneaky-good stream.
Hitters to Stream on Tuesday
If you're hunting for bats, point your lineup at Cleveland Guardians against left-hander Carson Whisenhunt. Whisenhunt picked up a win last time out, allowing just one run in 5 1/3 innings against the Astros, but he walked three and struck out only two. He's not fooling anyone.
That's why you should roll with the right-handed platoon bats: Jo Adell, Angel Martinez, Rhys Hoskins, and Angel Genao all have the edge against a lefty in Progressive Field. Stack 'em and enjoy the fireworks.
As always, check the latest fantasy baseball buzz for any late-breaking news that could shake up Tuesday's slate. Here's to a big day.
