Pep's Brutal Divorce Confession Exposed: 'Where Is the Passion?'

Pep Guardiola has always been an open book on tactics, but in a new tell-all documentary, the legendary manager peels back the curtain on something far deeper: a broken marriage and a squad he believes lost its damn fire.

After stepping down as Manchester City boss at the end of last season, the Catalan tactician opened up about the personal turmoil that shadowed his final years at the Etihad — and it got raw.

In the Amazon Prime documentary A Beautiful Obsession, the cameras capture Guardiola erupting in the dressing room following a brutal 2-0 Champions League loss to Juventus. That defeat marked City's seventh loss in 10 games, with just one win in that horrific stretch. And Pep? He wasn't holding back.

'We Lost the Passion'

"Guys, I want to confess something: I'm f***ing divorced from the most beautiful woman on your planet," Guardiola shouted. "It's my wife, my ex-wife — I love her unbelievably, but we lost the passion. For many reasons, we lost the passion. I love her? Yes, absolutely. She loves me? Yes, but we lost the passion."

Then came the challenge to his players: "How do you play football because you are paid? Or because of something inside? Where is the passion? In your life, whatever you are going to do, do it with passion. I don't want any good players. I want players with passion."

His marriage to Cristina Serra fell apart in 2024, and Pep never publicly addressed it — until now. The emotion is unfiltered, and it shows just how much the demise of his personal life bled into his professional world.

What's Next For Pep?

Reportedly, Guardiola turned down the chance to manage Italy this summer. And in the doc, he admits he's in no rush to return to the touchline.

"I don't even know, even myself, what I'm going to do. Honestly, I don't know. But for sure it will be difficult to come back," he says. "I need to refresh many things that happened in my personal life and professionally. I need to find myself in different things."

He even brings in a Catalan word: 'badar'. "Badar is like this [sitting still]. So, do that. That is one of the main targets I want to do."
