From South Beach to SoCal

Amsler spent two decades grinding with the Heat, starting as an intern back in 2004-05 and climbing the ranks through scouting, player personnel, and G League leadership. Most recently, he served as Miami's VP of player personnel and GM of the Heat's G League affiliate, the Sioux Falls Skyforce. Translation: the guy knows how to identify talent, develop it, and win.

Pelinka's Front Office Gets a Facelift

Lakers president of basketball operations and GM Rob Pelinka has been busy. This offseason he's already added Rohan Ramadas from the New Orleans Pelicans to head up cap, analytics, and strategy. Now Amsler fills the other key role—one Pelinka said would focus on "player draft and evaluation processes — pro scouting, draft scouting, player development." In other words, the Lakers are building a powerhouse behind the scenes.

Amsler's arrival is the first major front-office shakeup since majority owner Mark Walter agreed to sell the franchise to Josh Kushner and Bob Iger at a jaw-dropping $12.5 billion valuation in August.
