The rumor mill is on fire: Inter Milan and Tottenham are locked in transfer talks over Djed Spence, and sources tell ESPN a deal is very much in play.

Why is Spence on the move?

Tottenham are willing to entertain offers for the 26-year-old, and the reason is simple: new boss Roberto De Zerbi doesn't see him as a key piece for the season ahead.

Spence arrived at Spurs from Middlesbrough in July 2022 for £19m ($25.6m), with add-ons tied to international honors. And it's safe to say those add-ons kicked in. Sources stress there's no major fallout between Spence and De Zerbi. But the path to consistent minutes in north London looks blocked. De Zerbi has already called Pedro Porro the 'best in the world' at right-back, and Tottenham also pulled off a savvy free-agent signing in Andy Robertson. The Scot is expected to lock down left-back, with Destiny Udogie as competition — if he can shake off his preseason fitness issues.
