NBA Drops 2026-27 Schedule, and January Is an Absolute Reunion Brawl

The NBA just pulled the curtain on the 2026-27 schedule, and if you like your basketball served with raw emotion, January is going to hit harder than a Giannis Euro step.

Yes, Thursday's release delivered plenty of marquee dates, but the real heat is centered on homecomings. Let's break down the must-see returns.

Giannis goes home

The Greek Freak returns to Milwaukee on Jan. 28 when his new team, the Miami Heat, roll into Fiserv Forum. This isn't just another game. Giannis spent 13 seasons with the Bucks, won two MVP trophies and delivered a championship in 2021. Now he's the enemy. Expect tears, a tribute video and maybe a thunderous dunk that silences the crowd he used to own.

Oh, and that game also reunites Bam Adebayo with Tyler Herro — the man who was shipped out in the Giannis trade. Remember, those two got into it in Las Vegas during summer league, with Adebayo striking his former teammate. Yeah, that's awkward.

Then on Feb. 4, the Bucks come to Miami with Herro, Kel'el Ware and Jaime Jaquez Jr. — all part of that blockbuster — returning to the Heat. The receipts will be flying.

Jaylen Brown walks into the lion's den

Jaylen Brown's first game against his old Celtics squad comes Nov. 10 in Philadelphia. But the real return to the Garden? That's Jan. 21, and LeBron James will be right there, too. LeBron's first time in Boston as a Sixer, after all those wars as a Cavalier, adds even more spice to an already combustible night. Celtics fans still aren't over the front office trading Brown within the division for Paul George, two firsts and two seconds. Brown spent a decade in Boston, and last season he put up a career-best 28.7 points, 6.9 rebounds and 5.1 assists while Tatum missed significant time. The Garden knows what it lost.

LaMelo Ball returns to the scene

Charlotte stunned everyone by trading LaMelo Ball, and on Jan. 29 he'll walk into Minnesota wearing a Wolves jersey. The Hornets had the second-best turnaround in the league last season and were one of the hottest teams after Jan. 1, but they still missed the playoffs by a single game, losing to Orlando in the play-in. Ball was the franchise's heart, and he'll get his own homecoming when Charlotte visits him on Feb. 15. The crowd in Charlotte will go absolutely bonkers.

Trae Young finally plays in Atlanta

Trae Young already got a video tribute and a standing ovation when he returned last season, but he didn't play because of injury. This time, on Nov. 6, he'll actually suit up for the Wizards at Atlanta. After seven-plus seasons with the Hawks, this one's going to cut deep — for him and for the fans.

Fresh faces and a Finals rematch

Before all that, watch out for AJ Dybantsa's pro debut. The No. 1 overall pick opens the season at home against Milwaukee on Oct. 21. He'll also face No. 2 pick Darryn Peterson on Feb. 27 in Utah, and square off against Cooper Flagg — the last two No. 1 picks — on Mar. 11 when Washington visits Dallas.

And oh yeah, the defending champion New York Knicks have a Christmas Day Finals rematch against the San Antonio Spurs at Madison Square Garden. They'll meet again March 7 in San Antonio. Circle your calendars, folks. This schedule is loaded.
