Spence Touches Down in Milan, Inter Move All But DONE — And He's Already Screaming 'Forza Inter'!

The Djed Spence experience at Tottenham is over. The 26-year-old England defender has landed in Milan, and Inter have their man. There was even a "Forza Inter" greeting for the cameras as he touched down early Friday — this one is essentially done.

Why now?

Spence just had a breakout World Cup with England, but his pathway at Spurs was blocked. Pedro Porro signed a new deal in June. Andy Robertson came in as left-back cover. That meant 2026-27 was shaping up to be another season of watching from the sidelines — and Spence wanted more.

The deal

ESPN reported on Wednesday that Tottenham and Inter were deep in talks over a transfer worth in the region of €30 million ($34.6m/£25.6m). It's a far cry from his arrival from Middlesbrough in July 2022 for £19m plus add-ons tied to international appearances.

Spence's time in north London never followed a simple script. He had to wait two years for his full debut after loans at Stade Rennais, Leeds and Genoa. It took Ange Postecoglou to give him a real lifeline in 2024-25, and he responded by playing 44 times in a brutal campaign in which Spurs avoided relegation on the final day.

Now, with Roberto De Zerbi reshuffling everything, the green light has been given for the ex-Fulham youth product to leave. He heads to Inter with 85 Spurs appearances and a Europa League winners' medal on his résumé.

For Spence, this is a return to Italy after a six-month loan at Genoa in 2024 — but this time it's a bigger stage and a proper shot at title-winning football. Forza Inter, indeed.
