RODRI TO BARÇA: THE DREAM MOVE IS FINALLY HERE
Forget the rumors, the speculation, the back-and-forth with Real Madrid — Rodri is in Barcelona, and this dream move is about to become a reality. The Manchester City midfield general landed at El Prat airport, and he didn't waste a second before making his intentions crystal clear.
"A DREAM COME TRUE"
"I'm very happy to be here. It's been an intense few days, but I'm glad everything is sorted out," Rodri told reporters right off the plane. "Playing for Barcelona is a dream come true for me. I'm really looking forward to being with my teammates, most of whom I already know from the national team, so now it's time to work hard and give my best."
Then came the warning shot to the rest of Europe: "We're going for the Champions League, we're going for everything that comes our way." Yeah, Barça fans, you can start dreaming big.
THE DEAL
The 30-year-old's switch from the Etihad to the Nou Camp is set at €76.5 million (£65.3M), with the final paperwork expected to be signed off after his medical on Tuesday. And if everything goes to plan, don't be shocked if the announcement drops that same day — with the official presentation penciled in for Wednesday.
This saga took some serious twists. Barcelona saw an opening offer in the region of €50M rejected last week. They went back with more money, got turned away again, and then finally reached an agreement on Sunday. It took some work, but they got their man.
CITY'S LOSS
Manchester City's loss is Barcelona's gain. The Premier League side was desperate to keep their linchpin. Manager Enzo Maresca didn't hide it after the Community Shield on Sunday, calling Rodri a "top player" and bluntly saying, "all the teams need Rodri." But they couldn't convince him to sign a new deal.
Rodri had only just returned to City on Friday after undergoing back surgery following the World Cup — a tournament he won with Spain this summer. He spent seven seasons at City, winning the Premier League four times, scoring the only goal in the 2023 Champions League final against Inter, and winning the Ballon d'Or in 2024. That's a legacy, alright.
But injuries have been brutal. The ACL tear in 2024-25 wiped out most of that season, and then hamstring and groin issues limited him to just 33 appearances in Pep Guardiola's final campaign. Now he's ready to write a new chapter in Catalonia — and he's not here just to make up the numbers.
BARÇA'S BIG SQUAD SHAKE-UP
Rodri joins a midfield in transition. Barça are getting a winner, a leader, and a player who knows exactly what it takes to lift the biggest trophies. Meanwhile, City have already been busy — spending €135M on Elliot Anderson and agreeing to sell Tijjani Reijnders to Al Qadisah. They're also linked with Lille's Ayyoub Bouaddi and Chelsea's Enzo Fernández.
But that's their problem. Right now, Barcelona have a World Cup winner, a Ballon d'Or winner, and a man who's hungry for more. The dream is real — and it's wearing blaugrana.
