Kick 'Em? Hull Boss Says Only Way to Slow Chelsea's Goal Machine Is to Get Physical

Hull City are rolling into Stamford Bridge with a zero-fear attitude and a one-liner that will make Chelsea fans wince.

Tigers boss Sergej Jakirovic was asked how his side might slow down Chelsea's electric attack, led by João Pedro, Cole Palmer and Morgan Rogers. His answer? Half joke, half truth bomb.

'To kick them?'

'To kick them? No, if you are there man-marking, you don't have chance,' Jakirovic said. 'So, it's very, very simple because they are capable to pass one, two, three players.'

Translation: don't try to shadow Chelsea one-on-one. That's a fast track to getting cooked. Jakirovic wants Hull compact, connected and scrapping as a unit.

'It's about being together -- compact team, team effort and defending as a team, and we will see,' he said. 'But they have very, very big quality and it will be very, very demanding for us.'

The numbers back up the respect. Xabi Alonso's Chelsea have been lighting up scoreboards with 16 goals in five league and cup games. Hull, meanwhile, have been stubborn as concrete since returning to the Premier League: no goals conceded, wins over Manchester United and Coventry, and a draw with Aston Villa last week.

That's seven points from three games for the promoted Tigers. Not bad for a team many expected to be roadkill.

Jakirovic, though, isn't ready to crown his squad. He wants more.

'Every game, it's a new challenge. Like I said, we will try to play even better than the first three rounds,' he said. 'I expect in every game that we grow... We have seven points, which is good. We didn't concede, which is excellent. But I also know that a lot of teams will be very motivated to score against us.'

The message is clear: stay disciplined, stay focused, and don't let Chelsea's highlight-reel attack turn Stamford Bridge into a track meet.

Injury-wise, Hull have no fresh concerns. Brooke Norton-Cuffy, John Egan and Paddy McNair are all fit. Norton-Cuffy had a calf scare after the Aston Villa game, but a scan came back clean. Hidemasa Morita and Charlie Hughes remain out.

So can Hull's brick-wall defense survive Chelsea's fireworks? Or will Alonso's side make the Tigers pay for even joking about kicking them? Saturday at the Bridge is about to give us the answer.
