Ravens Rookie WR Uprising Is Real: Ja'Kobi Lane Does the Dirty Work in 24-7 Beatdown of Eagles

The Ravens' future looks bright — and it's wearing a rookie jersey.

BALTIMORE — Ja'Kobi Lane introduced himself to the NFL in the most Ravens way possible: catching a short pass, breaking tackles, and refusing to go down. The third-round pick out of USC finished with three catches for 38 yards, none bigger than his 16-yard touchdown where he dragged Eagles defenders into the end zone like they were practice dummies.

Rookie Party in Charm City

Lane got the score, but he wasn't alone. Fourth-round picks Matt Hibner and Elijah Sarratt went nuclear in their first taste of NFL action, combining for 11 receptions and 127 yards. That's the kind of chemistry that makes general managers smile and defensive coordinators sweat.

QB Carousel: Huntley Sharp, Fagnano Flashy

With Lamar Jackson and Jalen Hurts both watching from the sideline in street clothes, the backup battle took center stage. Tyler Huntley looked every bit the veteran, going 6-for-7 for 76 yards, including a 29-yard strike to Hibner that was the longest play from scrimmage all night.

Then came undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano out of UConn, and the kid brought the juice. Fagnano went 22-for-28 for 223 yards, hit Lane for the score, and even overcame a late-second-quarter interception by Kelee Ringo in the end zone. He followed that bounce-back with authority, leading two 11-play drives after halftime that turned a tight game into a rout.

Special Teams Gremlins

Not everything was smooth. Tyler Loop — the kicker whose missed field goal at Pittsburgh ended the Ravens' 2025 season — pushed a 49-yarder wide right in the first quarter. But he shook it off and drilled a 42-yarder in the third to make it 13-0. Adam Randall and Austin Reed added fourth-quarter touchdown runs to seal it.

Eagles' Offense Was Stuck in Traffic

Philadelphia's night was ugly. The Eagles managed just two first downs before their final drive and were outgained 440 yards to 159. Ouch. Andy Dalton and Tanner McKee combined for 50 passing yards. That's not going to scare anyone.

Credit the Eagles' defense for making things messy: Kelee Ringo picked off Fagnano in the end zone late in the second, and Shaun Wade forced an Elijah Sarratt fumble that Ambry Thomas recovered in the third. But the offense couldn't do anything with those gifts.

Cole Payton, the rookie QB, at least got Philly on the board with a 6-yard TD pass to Erik Ezukanma to cap a nine-play, 69-yard drive. Too little, way too late.

Eagles: At New England next Saturday. Ravens: At Minnesota next Saturday. The rookies, meanwhile, just made a strong opening statement.
