Cardinals Camp Chaos: QB Battle Ignites, Rookies Star, and the Heat Is On in Arizona
The Arizona Cardinals are cooking. Training camp is underway at State Farm Stadium, and the desert heat isn't the only thing turning up the temperature. With a revamped quarterback room, a rookie running back who looks like a cheat code, and a defense that's hungry for picks, this camp is already serving nonstop fireworks.

The QB Battle Is Real
Jacoby Brissett is back on a reworked deal worth $15.5M guaranteed, and he's already taking first-team reps. On Sunday, he went 13-for-16 with two picks — one bad route, one jump, but overall he looked in command. He found his favorite target Trey McBride six times on six targets. That's chemistry.
But don't sleep on Gardner Minshew II or rookie Carson Beck. Minshew went 9-for-13 with a couple of dimes, including a deep ball to Michael Wilson and a perfect back-shoulder fade to Marvin Harrison Jr. Beck, the third-round pick out of Miami, went 9-for-12 and showed off serious arm talent — even when throwing off-balance. He also hit rookie Reggie Virgil with a gorgeous deep ball and a one-handed stunner along the sideline that had the whole field buzzing.
Brissett didn't take 11-on-11 snaps early on, putting in extra work after practice with Marvin Harrison Jr. for over 20 minutes. Coach Mike LaFleur said the offense is a new language for him, but the leadership is already showing — he was spotted coaching up Beck during drills.
Jeremiyah Love Is Must-See TV
The No. 3 overall pick is living up to the hype. Love has been splitting first-team reps with Tyler Allgeier and showing off the shiftiness that made him a star. On Friday, he put a stutter step on linebacker Cody Simon that left him in the dust — then cut inside for a catch from Brissett. He's not just a runner; he's a weapon in space.
"I like that they're trying to utilize me in ways that benefit me," Love said. "If I get out in space, I feel like I can make a play against whoever."
He even sprinted to congratulate Allgeier after a TD — good vibes in that RB room. And when the pads came on, the run game became real. Love took seven of 11 first-team handoffs on Tuesday.
Marvin Harrison Jr. Is Blocking Out the Noise
A couple of drops went viral earlier in camp, but MHJ responded the right way. He was out early catching passes off the Jugs machine, then made a diving 50-yard grab on Monday from Brissett that silenced the doubters. Coach LaFleur wasn't sweating it: "You don't want to drop any balls ever in the history of time," he said. "But what I was happy about was how he responded."
O-Line Battles Heating Up
Second-year guard Isaiah Adams is starting to put it together, per O-line coach Justin Frye. With second-round pick Chase Bisontis pushing for the job, Adams is finally understanding the nuances of the position. "He's doing some really good things right now that he's never done," Frye said.
Seventh-round pick Jayden Williams is also turning heads — the Ole Miss tackle is already getting second-team reps, which is rare for a late-rounder this early. Keep an eye on him.
Injuries and the PUP List
Edge rusher Josh Sweat is still sidelined with a knee injury, but DC Nick Rallis says he's "locked in" in meetings. Cornerback Garrett Williams and tight end Tip Reiman are also on PUP. Second-year DL Walter Nolen III had a scare with his left knee — the same one that ended his rookie season — but he called it a "little hiccup" and said he's fine.
Safety Joey Blount left practice with a trainer after missing 16 games last year with a neck injury. And receiver Ihmir Smith-Marsette, one of camp's surprise standouts, also left early.

Camp isn't real until the first fight. We got one when defensive lineman Darius Robinson took down Love and center Jon Gaines II came to defend his rookie.
