No. 11 To The Rafters: Cardinals Make Larry Fitzgerald Immortal

GLENDALE, Ariz. — Larry Fitzgerald just keeps collecting hardware. Two days after getting his gold jacket in Canton, the Arizona Cardinals dropped another bombshell: his iconic No. 11 is officially being retired.

The team announced Monday that Fitzgerald will be inducted into the Cardinals' Ring of Honor at halftime of their Week 7 showdown against the Denver Broncos on Oct. 25. Even better? His number is going up for good.

A Fitting Tribute

Fitzgerald becomes just the sixth player in franchise history to have his number retired and the 20th member of the Ring of Honor. That's the kind of company you keep when you spend all 17 seasons with one team and rewrite the record books doing it.

“No one who has ever worn a Cardinals uniform is more deserving of this honor,” owner Michael Bidwill said in a statement. “His excellence on the field was only surpassed by the way he represented our team and our community off of it. We are all grateful for the opportunity to recognize Larry in this way and for our fans to celebrate all he has meant to our franchise and the state of Arizona.”

A Legacy That Speaks For Itself

Selected third overall in the 2004 draft, Fitzgerald didn't just play for the Cardinals — he became the franchise. He finished his career ranked second in NFL history in both receptions and receiving yards. Meanwhile, he sits alone atop Arizona's leaderboard in receptions, receiving yards, touchdowns, and games played.

No. 11 will now hang in the rafters, a permanent reminder of the guy who made the spectacular look routine. Larry Legend earned every bit of this.
