Former Pro Bowler Darren Waller and the Carolina Panthers have agreed to a one-year deal, per ESPN's Adam Schefter. The 33-year-old isn't done proving people wrong — not by a long shot.

The Comeback Kid Strikes Again

Remember when Waller walked away from football after 2023? Yeah, that retirement didn't stick. In 2025, he got the itch, called his agent Drew Rosenhaus, and joined the Dolphins after Miami shipped Jonnu Smith to Pittsburgh. But his return wasn't exactly smooth sailing.

Injuries hit early — hip and quad issues wiped out his preseason and the first three weeks. Then, in classic Waller fashion, he exploded onto the scene in Week 4 with two touchdown catches against the Jets. He followed that up with scores in back-to-back games. But just when he was heating up, a pec injury in Week 7 put him on ice.

He fought back, returned in Week 13, then got slapped with a groin injury in Week 18. Still, the numbers tell the story: 24 catches, 283 yards, and six touchdowns in a season where he barely had a full training camp. That's elite efficiency when he's on the field.

What Does This Mean for Carolina?

The Panthers are getting a proven playmaker with massive upside — when healthy. Waller's career résumé is legit: 374 receptions, 4,407 yards, and 26 touchdowns since being a sixth-round pick by the Ravens in 2015.

At 33, he's not the future. But he might be the spark. Carolina needs weapons, and Waller gives Bryce Young a big-bodied target who can stretch the seam and make contested catches look routine.

This is a low-risk, high-reward swing. If Waller stays upright, this could be one of the sneakiest signings of the offseason. If not? Well, it's a one-year flier. Either way, it's a move worth watching.
