Pearsall's Promise: '9 Months. Mindset.' — 49ers WR Vows To Fight Back After Season-Ending Knee Surgery

Santa Clara, Calif. — The hits keep coming for Ricky Pearsall. But the 49ers' wideout isn't blinking.

The third-year receiver underwent successful surgery on his right knee Wednesday to repair a torn PCL — and immediately flipped the script, taking to Instagram with a message that sounds more like a battle cry than a setback.

"Now it's time. Time to completely shift my mind. Time to hone in on every aspect of myself, mentally, physically and spiritually. Time to lock it all in..." Pearsall wrote. "The road back starts now. I'm ready for every part of it. Every early morning. Every setback. Every small win nobody sees. Every step that gets me closer to stepping back on that field."

The injury originally happened in last season's Week 4 loss to the Jaguars, costing him all or parts of 10 games. After weighing surgery this offseason, the Niners and Pearsall chose rehab and rest instead. But after just three practices at training camp, swelling returned — and the decision was made. Pearsall is now on season-ending injured reserve, his 2026 campaign over before it truly began.

No Regrets. No What Ifs.

"I gave myself time to disconnect from the world, process everything, and shift my focus toward what's ahead over these next 9 months," he said. "All I've ever known is football. I've never missed a game because of a football injury in my entire career. So when I got the news, it was hard to wrap my mind around the fact that the same injury I had been fighting through, the one that was supposed to be alright, was ultimately going to require surgery and end my 2026 season."

Brutal. Unfair. But Pearsall isn't looking for pity. "No regrets. No what ifs. Just peace in the midst of yet another trial, knowing I did everything I could."

Now the clock starts ticking. The expected recovery timeline: nine months. That puts him on track for the start of the 2027 season — and sets up a massive fourth year. The Niners also face a big decision on his fifth-year option next offseason, with his availability suddenly a major question.

Already A Warrior

For his career, Pearsall has 67 catches for 928 yards and three touchdowns in 20 games. And remember, this is the same guy who missed the first six games of his rookie year after being shot in an attempted robbery in San Francisco. The man has already stared down worse.

So while the doubters sharpen their knives, Pearsall is already sharpening his mindset. "Now it's time to prove exactly what I know I am and become everything God gave me the potential to be."
