Saints Rookie Jordyn Tyson Leaves Practice With Leg Injury — And a Hefty Side of Déjà Vu
The New Orleans Saints walked into Thursday's joint practice against the Jacksonville Jaguars looking for a spark. What they got instead was an all-too-familiar sinking feeling: rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson went down, got up, and never came back.
What happened?
Tyson was slow to get up after hauling in a pass from Tyler Shough along the sideline while working against Jacksonville's first-team defense. He jogged to the opposite sideline with athletic trainers, then walked off with the team as the period ended. He didn't return to the rest of practice.
Saints coach Kellen Moore didn't sugarcoat it: Tyson is dealing with a leg/lower body injury. But beyond that? No details. "We'll get more information and we'll probably have a better idea tomorrow," Moore said.
A frustrating pattern
This isn't the first time Tyson's body has slammed the brakes on his hype train. He dealt with hamstring issues coming out of the pre-draft process and missed most of OTAs and minicamp, limited mostly to walkthroughs. The Saints were extra cautious with him early in the summer, then ramped him up to a normal workload once camp opened—with a few drills off the menu.
Now, a new injury scare in the middle of a physical joint practice is one more test for the rookie. The Saints are still figuring out their receiver room, and Tyson's speed and upside are exactly what they need. But availability matters, and right now, the clock is ticking on getting answers.
Stay tuned, Who Dat Nation. This one's not over yet.
