Saints Rookie Jordyn Tyson Sidelined by Hamstring Nightmare — Week 1 Worry?
The New Orleans Saints just caught a painful break. Rookie wide receiver Jordyn Tyson is dealing with a right hamstring injury and will miss time, head coach Kellen Moore confirmed Friday.
Moore isn't putting a timetable on Tyson's return, but when asked whether this could bleed into the regular season, he didn't sugarcoat it: "It could." That's enough to make Saints fans hold their breath.
How It Happened
The injury went down during Thursday's joint practice against the Jacksonville Jaguars. Tyson hauled in a pass, landed awkwardly, and didn't bounce right back up. He slowly tested his leg, then jogged off with athletic trainers and never returned to the session.
Moore was quick to shut down any talk that this is a recurrence of the hamstring issues Tyson dealt with at Arizona State last year.
"I think my understanding of this one, any player that was put in his situation where your foot slips and you get shoved from behind, this has nothing to do with Jordyn's history," Moore said. "Any player in that situation probably has the same diagnosis coming out of this."
What's Next for the Rookie?
For now, the Saints are keeping it patient. Moore stressed he's not going to play doctor and force a timeline.
"We've just got to let these experts evaluate this and then we'll put together a plan," he said. "Not going to jump to conclusions. I don't have a doctor in front of my name, so I'm not going to jump to put together a timeline on it."
Tyson wasn't expected to play in Saturday's preseason matchup against the Jaguars anyway, as New Orleans had him among the veterans and key young pieces getting the day off. Second-team quarterback Spencer Rattler is set to start that one.
The real question now is whether Tyson will be ready when the games actually count. The Saints are hoping this is just a bump in the road, not a roadblock to Week 1.
